Iran Says Its Shelling Is Occurred by Erbil and Baghdad Green Light Posted on 01 July 2010

1 Jul 2010 (Rudaw) The Iranian ambassador in Baghdad, Hassan Kazmi Qumi, (Iraq) says that the Iranian bombardment of the border areas between the Kurdistan region and Iran are accepted by the authorities in Kurdistan and Iraq.

“The bombings have the goal to eliminate terrorists and take place on basis of an agreement with Erbil and Baghdad,” said Qumi.

According to Qumi, Kurdish rebel groups take advantage of the situation and use Iraqi Kurdistan region as a Launchpad to attack Iran.

Several Kurdish groups like PJAK, PDKI and Komala have camps based near the border of Iran.

“A number of terrorist groups in Iraq are the cause of the unrest near the border region. The region is abused,” said Qumi.

He added that the Iraqi and Iranian government should patrol the border.

But the Iraqi ambassador to Iran rejected the claims of the Iranian government representative.

“The neighbouring countries must respect the sovereignty of Iraq. That’s why we condemn every military operation or bombardments of our borders.”

Earlier the Kurdistan Regional Government also strongly condemned the bombings which still continue.
