Iranians Kick-off a Campaign for UN to Reject the Credentials of the Representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran

14 Jul 2010 (Medya News): Iranians from all strides have initiated a campaign to demand from the UN Credentials Committee to Reject the Credentials of the Representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the sixty-fifth Session of the UN General Assembly, starting on Tuesday.

The on-line petition was prepared by the newly established “Congress of Unity for Federal, Democratic and Secular Iran” which held a two day conference in the Washington DC vicinity on the 19th and 20th of June 2010.

The aim of the organizers of the petition is to gather 100,000 signature before the sixty-fifth session of the UN General Assembly.

UNITY CONFERENCE OF IRANIAN
OPPOSITION FOR A DEMOCRATIC IRAN
( Falls Church , Virginia, 19-20 June 2010)

Petition demanding the United Nations Credentials Committee to Reject the Credentials of the Representatives of the
Islamic Republic of Iran to the sixty-fifth Session of the UN General Assembly, starting on Tuesday 14 September 2010

We the participants of the Unity Conference of Iranian Democratic Opposition forces ,comprising of members of nearly all sections of the Iranian society ,Shiites , Sunnies ,Christians, Zoroastrians ,Jews, Bahia’s ,… Iranian Arabs ( Ahvaziies ),Azaries , Balouch, Kurds , Fars ,…, men ,women and youth of different political orientations;
Mindful of thirty-one years of Gross and Systematic Violations of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms in our Country, as it has been documented in over one hundred resolutions of the Principal and subsidiary Organs of the United Nations, in Studies of the Special Rapporteur on Iran , reports of various other UN Human Rights Rapporteur , Reports of Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Reporters without Frontiers,…;

Cognizant of the fact that continuing and ever worsening situation of human rights and fundamental freedoms in Iran is contrary to Iran’s legal obligations under the various Articles of the United Nations Charter, the terms of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), and the International Covenant on Economic ,Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), both of which have been ratified by Iran, since over 30 years ago ,and Iran is obliged to observe them ;

In view of the similarities , and the ever worsening situation of gross and systematic violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms in Iran today, to that of the South African gross violations of human rights ,before 1992, we therefore demand that the Credential Committee of the General Assembly of the United Nations , in it’s meeting on 14 September 2010,act in the same manner, by rejecting the credentials of the representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran and thereby preventing them to occupy the seat of Iran at the United Nations.
