19 Jul 2010 (AP) German officials say they are investigating whether a Hamburg-based bank’s dealings with Iran have violated any international sanctions.
Finance Ministry spokesman Michael Offer said Monday that Berlin was not aware of any wrongdoing by the European-Iranian Trade Bank AG, but that German authorities were looking into the allegations.
The Wall Street Journal reported the bank has been doing business in Iran with companies that are on the blacklists of the United Nations and European Union.
A spokeswoman for the bank would not comment on the report but said it would release a statement later Monday.
The bank was founded 30 years ago. It focuses on financing foreign trade with Iran.
