Statement of the Democratic Solidarity Party of Ahwaz on the Activation of the Snapback Mechanism and the Reimposition of International Sanctions on the Iranian Regime

The Democratic Solidarity Party of Ahwaz is closely following the recent developments concerning the European countries’ announcement to activate the “snapback mechanism,” which paves the way for the reimposition of United Nations sanctions on the Iranian regime in the coming weeks. The Party believes that although this decision will inevitably have negative consequences for the people of the country in the medium and long term, it nevertheless marks a turning point in the international community’s approach towards the policies and conduct of this regime—a regime that has, for decades, consistently violated its nuclear commitments and pursued policies of repression and expansionism at the expense of the various nationalities within Iran and beyond its borders.

From the Party’s perspective, the activation of the snapback mechanism should not be viewed merely as a technical measure concerning the nuclear program, but rather as an international acknowledgment of the regime’s failure to uphold its obligations, and as a reflection of the growing awareness that such behavior poses a direct threat to international peace and security. The Party stresses that the Ahwazi Arab people, who have endured decades of oppression, marginalization, and environmental and economic deprivation, have been among the main victims of this regime’s policies—whether through the draining of wetlands and the destruction of the environment, or through the militarization of the region and the suppression of freedoms.

While welcoming this European step, the Democratic Solidarity Party of Ahwaz considers it a clear message to the peoples of the region that the era of impunity for the Iranian regime is coming to an end. The Party further emphasizes that these developments place the Ahwazi people at a decisive political crossroads, one that requires the highest levels of awareness, organization, and engagement in a peaceful and democratic struggle capable of using international shifts to advance their just cause.

The Party once again calls on the international community, particularly the United Nations and European countries, to go beyond this measure by adopting a comprehensive approach that holds the Iranian regime accountable for its continuous violations, including the crimes it has committed against the different nationalities within the country. The Party also reiterates the necessity of designating the “Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)” as a terrorist organization at the international level, as it remains the regime’s main instrument of domestic repression and foreign intervention.

The Democratic Solidarity Party of Ahwaz believes that the downfall of this regime is closer than ever. Accordingly, the focus must be placed on the unity of the people, the strengthening of organized political action, and building connections with international forces that support freedom and justice. The Party, while appreciating the resilience of its people inside the homeland and the voice of its diaspora abroad, reaffirms its firm commitment to a peaceful and democratic struggle for the freedom and dignity of the Ahwazi people, leading to the achievement of their legitimate rights within the framework of justice and the right to self-determination.
