Statement by the Ahwaz Human Rights Organization (AHRO) on the Confirmation of Death Sentences Against Three Political Prisoners
The Ahwaz Human Rights Organization expresses deep concern over verified reports indicating that the Supreme Court of Iran has upheld, on Wednesday 21 Aban 1404 (November 2025), the double death sentences issued against Masoud Jamei and Alireza Mardasi (Hamidawi), both members of the Ahwazi Arab community, as well as against Farshad Etemadifar from Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province. The rulings were communicated through the defendants’ lawyers and the “Sana” judicial portal.
In the same case, previous long-term prison sentences had been issued against Saman Hormatnejad and Davoud Hormatnejad. The three defendants sentenced to death are currently held in Ward 5 of Sheyban Prison in Ahwaz, following a ruling issued on 23 Tir 1404 by Branch 1 of the Ahwaz Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Ehsan Adibimehr, sentencing each of them to two executions plus one year of imprisonment.
The court based its verdicts on accusations such as “corruption on earth,” “membership in armed opposition groups,” “propaganda against the state,” and “assembly and collusion.” However, credible sources have informed AHRO that the judicial process was marred by serious violations of fair trial standards, including denial of meaningful access to independent legal counsel, coercive pressure by security agencies, and the extraction of forced confessions under duress.
AHRO considers the accelerated confirmation of these sentences as evidence of a politically driven and security-oriented approach, rather than an impartial judicial proceeding. Implementing these rulings would constitute a grave violation of the right to life and a breach of Iran’s international human rights obligations.
The Ahwaz Human Rights Organization calls for an immediate halt to the execution process, and demands a new, independent, and transparent trial that adheres to internationally recognized legal standards. AHRO further holds the judicial and security authorities fully responsible for the safety and lives of the condemned prisoners.
