TEHRAN, Iran — A top cleric with Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard has reiterated warnings that Tehran would strike archenemy Israel if the Jewish state and its Western allies attacked Iran.

(CNSNews.com) – After a flurry of diplomacy and statements last week indicating that sanctions against Iran were back on the international community’s front burner, the U.N. Security Council has released an agenda for the month of April that excludes Iran altogether.

BAGHDAD — A massive explosion in front of the Iranian embassy rocked central Baghdad on Sunday, an AFP correspondent said.

The explosion occurred around 11:20 am (0920 GMT), shattering windows in nearby buildings, with gunshots and ambulance sirens heard minutes later as emergency services rushed to the scene.

The president of the Kurdistan region, Massoud Barzani said in a statement on Saturday that all Kurdish parties will be united in Baghdad

“What could be expected by such a master? Why he should take such hostility toward an oppressed nation who has given lots of victims toward freedom. For Mr. Tehrani the occupation of Kurdistan, the looting, plunder and the assimilation of its people is not enough.”

Let’s cut to the chase. The Obama administration does not want to impose sanctions that could overthrow the clerical regime in Tehran. China is a convenient excuse. The suffering of Iranians is another excuse.

The Iranian regime thinks it is on a roll. Without so much as a whimper from the United States or Europe, it succeeded in brutally suppressing the Green movement during the latest round of protests on the anniversary of the revolution on Feb. 11. Now it sees an opportunity to roll up its opponents outside Iran as well.

BEIJING – After months of tense relations, China is showing new willingness to engage in talks with the United States, a diplomatic opening that may help the Obama administration achieve U.N. consensus on tightening sanctions on Iran.
