Iran foils Kurdish rebels bomb attack: media

AFP – Iran said on Wednesday it has foiled a bombing attack on defence ministry factory by an outlawed Kurdish group, accusing arch-foe Washington of backing them, local media outlets reported.PKK-peshmarge

“Three agents of the Komala terrorist group who were planning to bomb a factory belonging to the defence ministry in Tehran were identified and arrested,” the intelligence ministry said.

It added that the Komala members were arrested in Kordestan province and their attempt was “foiled,” without elaborating on the factory.

The report added that “two foreign made bombs concealed in loudspeakers and three Kalashnikovs (assault rifles) were seized.”

The statement accused US forces in neighbouring Iraq of backing them.

“Due to the occupying presence of the US forces in Iraq and their support of some terrorist groups like Komala, (thus) their training, and equipping them with military hardware is carried out by America’s intelligence services,” the statement concluded.

No further details were given.

Earlier this week, Iranian security forces killed four members of Komala in an ambush in West Azerbaijan province. Tehran said they had killed three policemen last December in the province that borders Iraq and Turkey.

Western Iran, which has a sizeable Kurdish population, has seen deadly clashes in recent years between security forces and Kurdish rebels operating from bases in neighbouring Iraq.
