End of Assad’s 50-Year Dictatorship

Thirteen years after the Syrian people began their peaceful protests—met with immediate repression, imprisonment, torture, chemical bombings, and mass killings by Bashar al-Assad’s regime—the brutal dictatorship of Assad was finally overthrown on December 7, 2024.

From the onset of these popular protests, the Iranian regime, through its proxy Hezbollah, played a pivotal role in suppressing Assad’s opponents. Under the direct orders of Ali Khamenei and the command of Qasem Soleimani, the Quds Force provided troops, weapons, and billions of dollars in resources to prop up the Syrian dictatorship.

The perseverance and resilience of the Syrian people have borne fruit, as celebrations erupt in liberated cities and tens of thousands of displaced individuals return from neighboring countries. The promise of a better life in peace and harmony now shines brightly for the Syrian people.

We, as the Broad Solidarity for Freedom and Equality in Iran, along with the Congress of Federal Nationalities for Iran, also hope for the establishment of a future Syrian government that upholds democracy, peace, and respect for the rights of all ethnicities, religions, and minorities. The fall of Assad’s criminal regime is a significant step toward this vision.

Moreover, the restoration of peace and stability in the region acts as an antidote to the destructive influence of the Iranian regime, bringing the people of Iran closer to ending their own oppressive regime.

The weakening and eventual dismantling of the Iranian regime’s war machine in the Middle East is undoubtedly in the interest of the freedom-seeking movement of the Iranian people.
